Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus DS) and Tata Advanced Systems have entered a collaboration for manufacturing and assembly of the C-295 medium–lift tactical transport airport aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Under the agreement Tata Advanced Systems has been selected as the Indian Production Agency (IPA) by Airbus DS. The aircraft built in India would be delivered between September 2023 and August 2025, with the first 16 fly-away aircraft scheduled to be delivered to the IAF between September 2023 and August 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday, October 30 lay the foundation stone of a manufacturing facility in Gujarat’s Vadodara for production of C-295 transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force by a consortium of European defence major Airbus and Indian conglomerate Tata, in what is billed as a major boost to the domestic aerospace sector.
It is the first project of its kind in which a military aircraft will be manufactured in India by a private company. The total cost of the project is Rs 22,000 crore. The aircraft can be used for civilian purposes as well.
